The Psychology of Teaching English

How can understanding human psychology help you become a more effective English teacher? My guest this week is named Diana, and she happens to know a lot about both psychology and teaching. She also happens to be the newest member of the EnglishTVLive team!

I only met Diana a few weeks ago, but I can tell already that we share a lot of common interests. If you have an interest in teaching English, learning about psychology, or improving your English listening skills, you'll love this episode!

In this episode, Diana and I discuss:

  • Diana's background--how she got started as an online teacher, and how she developed an interest in psychology.
  • The ways in which her background in psychology has helped her as an English teacher.
  • The challenges different challenges associated with teaching individuals one-on-one and teaching a group of students together.

Follow Diana online!

My challenge question for you:

If you're teacher, what do you think is one strength you possess that allows you to excel at your job?

If you're NOT a teacher, tell me about a teacher that you had growing up who had a positive impact on you. What made this teacher so great?

I would say “such a great and wonderful episode podcast” again!

Well, from my experienced and if I have to choose my classroom teacher when I was 7 years old is the best for me.

I am grateful and impressed her until now. I had to tell her 3 to 5 new words everyday and to be honest I did because I wanted to finish and later I forgot what I explain it to her. She was so kind and understood different students style she gave us a different homework sometimes :)

So many time when I hear a similar word, her face come to my mind and make me guilty. If I had studied harder at that time, I would be better than now.

Thank you so much for this podcast and I think psychology is a part of our life. We use it every single day. Most of all I am so glad to have a new teacher “Diana” in our group.

    Have a great day!

In my life I had a great native teacher who used to joke and make us learning English in a funny way. I can remember every word and method and all the fun we had with him! We had never studied English on a book!
