In this episode we'll look at the following expressions...

Expressions about Time:

  • "A piece of cake" - This means that something is very easy, perhaps much easier than you expected.
  • "Bring home the bacon" - The person who brings home most of the money in the family brings home the bacon (typically men in the past). Although these days, it's not as common to use this expression since men and women are both earning similar salaries in many countries!
  • "Don't cry over spilt milk" - There is no point in being upset about something which has already happened and you can't change it (something not so serious usually).
  • "Take it with a pinch of salt" - Don't believe everything you see, hear or read!
  • "A big cheese" - A very important and influential person or a boss.
  • "To bite off more than you can chew" - To give yourself too many tasks that you cannot physically do.
  • "My eyes were bigger than my stomach" - When you are very hungry and order a huge amount of food but get full before you an finish it all!
  • "Food for thought" - When someone or something inspires you to think more about what you are working on, they have given you food for thought!
  • "Grab a bite to eat" - This simply means to go and get something to eat, but typically quickly.
  • "The icing on the cake" - Something was already good but something else has made it even better!

In this podcast episode I'll give some examples of how to use these expressions. And then after listening, I'd love to see your examples in the comments!
