Advanced English Vocabulary - The Letter "N"
What makes you feel nostalgic? Are you more neurotic than the average person? Who is the most noble person you know? Welcome to the letter "N".
In this episode, I had Luke from Luke's English Podcast join me for a conversation. I must admit that I was a little bit nervous for this one. Luke is a giant in the English education podcasting space. At the time I'm writing this, he's released 591 episodes over the course of 10 years.
Luke and I had lots to discuss. This is officially the longest ETL podcasting episode to date--the first one to go over one hour. Enjoy.
As always, the words that Luke and I discussed are listed below.
5 Advanced English Words | The Letter "N"
Noble
If you say that someone is noble, you admire that person because you believe they have good morals.
Ex: He was the most noble man I've ever met!
Neurotic
Someone who is neurotic feels negative emotion more than others who are less neurotic. If you are highly neurotic, you get upset and frightened by things that others may find unimportant.
Ex: In the podcast, Luke and I discuss whether stand up comedians are more neurotic than the general population.
Nostalgic
If you feel nostalgic, you think about the past in an affectionate way.
Ex: Sometimes I feel nostalgic when I think about the time I spent living in Korea.
Nefarious
An activity that is nefarious is evil and immoral.
Ex: Many people said that Facebook did something nefarious when news of the Cambridge Analytica scandal came out.
Nuance
If something is nuanced, that thing has many different angles or meanings to it. This is a difficult word to define. Listen to Luke and I debate its meaning in the podcast! 😉
Ex: An argument can be nuanced (it can have many different sides to it). Jokes, too, often contain many nuances.
